Kineret® (anakinra)
Kineret®, an anti–cytokine injectable protein drug used together with methotrexate to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Kineret is marketed internationally following a licence agreement with Amgen.  
 
Rheumatoid arthritis is a common systemic disease that affects connective tissue.  Arthritis is the dominant clinical manifestation, involving many joints, especially those of the hands and feet.  The course is variable, but often chronic and progressive, leading to deformity and disability. 
 
Kineret is an anti–cytokine injectable protein drug used together with methotrexate to treat rheumatoid arthritis. 
 
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis produce excess amounts of inflammatory cytokines.  This leads to harmful effects such as swelling and tissue damage. 
 
Treatment with Kineret aims at blocking the negative effect of the inflammatory cytokines.  Kineret uniquely acts by blocking Interleukin-1 receptors.
